Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the virtues of family football scholarship and community service. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he played with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. He was awarded two championships as well as 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's main man. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in Education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. After graduating, Lee Roy settled in Tampa and spent the next nine years playing with the Buccaneers. 3 times, he was named an All-Pro. Then he began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top 10 young stars across the nation. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team for the year 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the University of South Fla's athletic department as its assistant director. The College Football Hall of Fame named his on the 28th of October, 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
